We can see Cu all around but the sniffer cannot find anything in the drop or start areas, very frustrating. The temp is up to 22C so theory says it should be working but it just isn't

We still have two that have not called start but we suspect that it is a communication failing rather than they have not gone. The conditions look excellent, we expect them back from 1600hrs onwards but it would be no great surprise if they are quicker than that.

We have been trying to post to Soaring Spot for well over an hour now but we just cannot get in. The problem is at the Soaring Spot end, we will persevere but there really is nothing we can do.

The grid has launched and the gate opens in 5 mins. The task is on soaring spot and is TIB-PIC-SAC-LVN-TSF. Looks like it's a good racing day with conditions better than forecast. We had one tug down with a brake problem but luckily Steve Jones was visiting Tibenham and did some tows for us, thanks Steve.

We have two finishers F2 and 57. There are only 3 gliders unaccounted for, presumed still on task, they are 520, JA Z6. All the others landed back or in a field somewhere.

We are still relighting gliders with R11 and V2C launching for the third time.
The landouts so far are E1, 25,AV8,ZZ and the land backs not launching again SH, JVA,and B3.
630 is back status unknown at this time. R11 has just started after 3 launches. B9 is at the launch point deciding if he needs to have another go.

Proving a bit difficult to get away from TIB but the weather appears to be improving.

Registration closed at 2100hrs. There were 25 entrants. There has been a great deal of activity putting up tents and awnings. The two Chipmunks arrived from Odiham so were are ready for the off. The entrants list should be on Soaring Spot soon, if they are not already

Registration is well under way. Colin is back from his holidays and meeting and greeting. The tug from Saltby has arrived and Sid and Tommy should be well on their way back from Odiham with the two Chipmunks. Tony Griffiths stole my ride.

A peek at Saturday

Current indications are of a low pressure centred just north of Aberdeen at midday. There is a cold front out to the east having passed over Tibenham in the early hours. Forecast soundings show unstable conditions with no significant inversion. Much will depend on the amount and location of any cloud dragged round the low. The good news is that it is polar air being dragged down which tends to be relatively dry. Much can change as it is a long way ahead but with a forecast temperature of 19 at 1600hrs with a 12kt westerly wind a task looks possible. We can but hope.

Some of you may have seen information elsewhere that there will be no reports from the 18 metre Mationals at Tibenham. I think the fact that you are reading this indicates that you cannot believe all you read elsewhere. As stated in my previous post the information will be available here

18 Metre National Championships

One week to go to the start of the 18 Metre National Championships. Just a heads up on what can be expected.

The task set will be uploaded to SoaringSpot as soon as it can be done, normally by the scorer after briefing.

This blog will be updated during the day as and when we can. Updating the blog will be a lower priority than some other tasks so please be patient. The priority is getting the competitors in the air so it is unlikely that there will be much information published until that has happened.

The results will appear on SoaringSpot as soon as we have a meaningful result to publish and assuming that SoaringSpot have sorted out their problems with their site. It was taking several hours to upload results during the last competition. It should be clearly understood that there is no intention to publish results on this blog.

If anyone attending the competition has a burning ambition to be a blog author, putting out lots of information on a regular basis then please contact us and we will arrange for a logon.

There appears a chance of a 2 hour slot when soaring may be possible so a small task has been set.
TIB-ELM-WYM-DIS-TSF (Tibenham South Finish) 103km.
The local forecast indicates CU/CB with heavy showers if we get the clearance so the chances are no more than 50/50 we will get to launch.
Good luck to Booker who have set a 136km task, they get the clearance a little earlier than us.

The task set was Swanton Morley, Bedford Bridge, Lenwade a straight racing task of just over 300 km. The weather again did not play ball and there was mass landout.

Day winner Gwyn Thomas. The full task and results wil be published when we get all the loggers back

Forecast for today was better with some Cu forecast. In the event it remained blue with scrappy and infrequent thermals. Grid launched at 1215hrs on a 2.5 hr AAT, Pickenhan PIC. Oakington OAK and Bury St Edmunds BS1.

The forecast this morning predicted a blue day with little or no thermals and a low inversion. One forecast, issued at 0600 hrs predicted thermal strengths of nil and the best prediction that I could come up with was 2-3kts to 3000/4000 ft. RASP indicated that the day would be short in soaring terms with a very narrow window for useable conditions between 1300hrs and 1530 hrs. I set this task

The forecasts were proved to be wrong in several respects, firstly the inversion was higher than predicted, the max temperature reqached was significantly greater than forecast, the wind did not veer to the south and was stronger than forecast. All this conspired to produce 4-5knot thermals to over 4000 ft. Hence the result

Described as a difficult day, but enjoyed by most. Ray Hart remains in 1st place overall but 40 points cover the top 3.
Well done to George Green the day winner and Gwyn Thomas who finished 3rd.
