I Lied

Prizegiving is over and the new Champion has received his trophy. My thanks to Mike and Joy Bean, Colion Chambers, Phil Morgan, Mike (Phil) Tait, Mike Helliwell, Sid Wright, Jim Lawn and Tony Griffiths who have all conspired to make the competition a real sucess. My thanks to all the competitors for an enjoyable week and not throwing me in the non existent Tibenham duckpond.
Thanks to Eddie and Rachel and all their staff for feeding us, supplying liquid refreshment and a tattooing service.
Finally thanks to our chairman John Roche-Kelly for presenting the prizes.
Godspeed to all the competitors and safe flying.

The final Blog

Eastern Regionals has scrubbed. Prizes at 1400hrs. Congratulations to Ray Hart the new ER champion

Day 6

As I write there is support for two different deitys. Ray probably supports Tlaloc and George and Peter must be praying very hard to Ra

Day 6

There appears a chance of a 2 hour slot when soaring may be possible so a small task has been set.
TIB-ELM-WYM-DIS-TSF (Tibenham South Finish) 103km.
The local forecast indicates CU/CB with heavy showers if we get the clearance so the chances are no more than 50/50 we will get to launch.
Good luck to Booker who have set a 136km task, they get the clearance a little earlier than us.

Saturday 5 June 2010

Day 5

The task is here

and the result here

Day 5

The task set was Swanton Morley, Bedford Bridge, Lenwade a straight racing task of just over 300 km. The weather again did not play ball and there was mass landout.

Day winner Gwyn Thomas. The full task and results wil be published when we get all the loggers back

Friday 4 June 2010

Day 4 The return

Of the competitors that left all but 2 got round, even if only just. The day is being scored as I type. Looks like Peter Stafford-Allen may have won the day with one logger to come

Easterns Day 4

Forecast for today was better with some Cu forecast. In the event it remained blue with scrappy and infrequent thermals. Grid launched at 1215hrs on a 2.5 hr AAT, Pickenhan PIC. Oakington OAK and Bury St Edmunds BS1.

4 landed back and one reported down near Ely

Thursday 3 June 2010

Day 3

The forecast this morning predicted a blue day with little or no thermals and a low inversion. One forecast, issued at 0600 hrs predicted thermal strengths of nil and the best prediction that I could come up with was 2-3kts to 3000/4000 ft. RASP indicated that the day would be short in soaring terms with a very narrow window for useable conditions between 1300hrs and 1530 hrs. I set this task

The forecasts were proved to be wrong in several respects, firstly the inversion was higher than predicted, the max temperature reqached was significantly greater than forecast, the wind did not veer to the south and was stronger than forecast. All this conspired to produce 4-5knot thermals to over 4000 ft. Hence the result

Day 2 Eastern Regionals

Described as a difficult day, but enjoyed by most. Ray Hart remains in 1st place overall but 40 points cover the top 3.
Well done to George Green the day winner and Gwyn Thomas who finished 3rd.

Friday 28 May 2010

Today was excellent

Sods law prevails, Peter Stafford-Allen complete a 450km flight today, reporting 7kt thermals to 6000 ft, we could do with a few days like today in the next 9.

Registration Open

Pilots are registering as I type. The weather for the morning is not that promising but Sunday looks good with Monday even better
