The gate is open

Max start height of 6500ft.

The grid has launched

The gate will open 1253hrs. Max start height of 6500ft. The temp/dew point split indicates cloudbase of over 6500 ft to the west

Third wave

14 launched so far, looking good, includes the self launcher. Even Sid is keeping up today

The grid is launching

First launch at 1143

Still waiting

We can see Cu all around but the sniffer cannot find anything in the drop or start areas, very frustrating. The temp is up to 22C so theory says it should be working but it just isn't

Day 5

Briefing is over the sniffer has launched. 330k task on soaring spot. Looks like we could have a good day. Director is at the launch point awaiting the reports from the sniffer.

Another scrubbed day

It should be pretty obvious that the day would be scrubbed, we have hopes for tomorrow. To entertain you I give you my contribution to the poets and pints evening.

With apologies to A A Milne

The awful thing about tuggies
Is tuggies are awfull things!
Their tops are made out of blubber
Their bottoms are made out of springs!
They're bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, woosy
Moan,moan,moan,moan,moan!
But the most awful thing about tuggies is
The’re not the only one
Tuggies are woosy fellas
Tuggies won’t land on grass
Because the uneven surface
Turns their landings into a farce

The awful thing about tuggies
Is tuggies are whining chaps!
They only fly local area
They have trouble reading maps!
They're jumpy, bumpy, clumpy, thumpy
Down the runway and grass!
But the most awful thing about tuggies is
The’re a real pain in the ………….arse

18 Metres Scrubbed

Sorry for the delay but we have scrubbed for today.

Results

The results are on soaring spot

All Accounted for

All competitors are accounted for and we have a day. We will have no result until all the loggers are in, no-one got round but a cretitable effort by all

Landback

W has appeared on the airfield, ZP and 25 have just called to say landing back, 64 downwind, V2C inbound non-comp

First landout

AV8 near Hethel

All gone

All have started, we watched them stream away to the north, the tuggies report that the lift is quite strong, presumably by sensing the increased pressure on their brains from the seat when they enter the lift :-)

Started

All gliders have started apart from JVA and 64

The gate is open

We wait with anticipation the first calls of start.

All launched

The grid has launched minus 42, the gate will open at 1254hrs. No gliders back and listening on the radio some have been as far north as Norwich.

Here we go then

The weather is not brilliant but we have commenced launching, anticipated gate time of 1300hrs.
The task is an AAT up and down Norfolk and is on soaring spot, 2hours.

Monday, 11 July 2011

All is safely gathered in.

Everyone is now accounted for and we are trying to get the results on Soaring Spot.
For today's winner look back to the photo of yesterday

More finishers

E11 and WZ

More finishers

E1,F2,64 have finished, they are coming thick and fast now

Finishers

The last post should have been finishers not landouts
XS and 57 have finished E1 and F2 20K

Landouts

57 and XS 10k

Landouts

9 and 57 at Upwood, SH got the donkey out at Wyton

It's awful quiet here

All gone

We still have two that have not called start but we suspect that it is a communication failing rather than they have not gone. The conditions look excellent, we expect them back from 1600hrs onwards but it would be no great surprise if they are quicker than that.

Starters

9, 25,57,42,64,304,520,B3 E1,E11,LH,JVA,P6,SH,V2C,W,Z6,ZP,ZZ all between 1237 and 1246

What else can go wrong

We are a tug down, Sid's Chipmunk is sick. My mobile broadband ran out of money but hee we are. As I type the last glider is being launched so we have still got them away in 48 mins. The gate will open at 1237hrs. More news when we have it

Help has arrived

The scorer has stepped into the breach so we are back up to strength. The task is TIB-LVN-EYE-TOW-RAT-TSF. I will blog when I can.

Here we are again - Day 3

The task is on soaring spot, one of the staff members has been taken ill so I probably will not be able to blog until after the grid has launched. We will commence launching at 1130hrs

Sunday, 10 July 2011

All is safely gathered in, nearly

OK it's bloggs off for the day, looks like we could get another day tomorrow with something to aim at.

Delay in posting to Soaring Spot

We have been trying to post to Soaring Spot for well over an hour now but we just cannot get in. The problem is at the Soaring Spot end, we will persevere but there really is nothing we can do.

Now the day is over

I will not be posting much for the next couple of hours, I need refreshment. The scores will appear on soaring spot as soon as the scorer can get them there.

Thanks to those who have commented on what we are doing, we are learning and I hope getting better. I have even discovered how to post pictures :-)

Time stamp on blogs

It has been pointed out to me that accessing the blog from the NGC page means you do not see the time stamp. To see the full blog with date/time stamps please access the blog here

It also takes time to update the NGC blog so if you want to see the latest post as it is made you must go to the above link

Looks like the winner is

Short Break

The launch point computer is closing down, will resume when I return to the clubhouse.

Land backs non comp

L58, 42,z6,B3,JV8,ZZ,P6

Finishers E1, F2

Only 8 left out there, 630 landed Ridgewell and is aerotowing back

Another finisher

64 has finished R11 landed back non-comp

I am posting as it happens so the time stamp is close to the finishing time, or delayed by a few minutes if the broadband is playing up

Finishers again

So far we have 57, 80,E11 and WZ, it's too close to call, everything with depend on the loggers, our money in on 80 or 57

My mobile broadband is playing up, I will try to keep up to date

Finishers

57 and E11 have just called 10K

The K13 Water Glider

Just a small shower

Another landout

JA has landed out at Oakington, 9 landed at Bedford

Finisher?

We have just heard a glider call 5.6k to Lavenham at 5000ft. We expect a finisher about 15.45. The first landout reported 9. The good news he is past Y

All gone

All gliders started within 13 minutes of the gate opening. We are now watching the GP, they are not going anywhere near Silverstone :-)

Game on

All but 42 and L58 have called start, less than 10 minutes after the gate opened.

Day 2

The grid has launched and the gate opens in 5 mins. The task is on soaring spot and is TIB-PIC-SAC-LVN-TSF. Looks like it's a good racing day with conditions better than forecast. We had one tug down with a brake problem but luckily Steve Jones was visiting Tibenham and did some tows for us, thanks Steve.

Saturday, 9 July 2011

The end of the day

All accounted for, the results will be on soaring spot as soon as the scorer has finished his dinner

Not the best day ever

We have two finishers F2 and 57. There are only 3 gliders unaccounted for, presumed still on task, they are 520, JA Z6. All the others landed back or in a field somewhere.

Arnhem re-created

We are still relighting gliders with R11 and V2C launching for the third time.
The landouts so far are E1, 25,AV8,ZZ and the land backs not launching again SH, JVA,and B3.
630 is back status unknown at this time. R11 has just started after 3 launches. B9 is at the launch point deciding if he needs to have another go.

Proving a bit difficult to get away from TIB but the weather appears to be improving.

E1 landout

Oops and B3 is returning - non comp, we assume he got is donkey out

1 Landout and 5 Relights

First landout reported ZZ. 5 gliders landed back V2C, 9, 630 *2, JVA, and R11. We are in the process of throwing them back in the air.

Gate opened at 13:03

Half the fleet called called start already

Gate Open

The start gate is open, 1 hour 3 mins after first launch. The relight was a mechanical failure. The conditions look reasonable but not brilliant. We await the first start.

Gate will open at 1305hrs BST

The grid has launched and the gate will open at 1305hrs with a max start height of 4000ft. On one glider back for relight

The grid is launching

The grid is launching on the task set TIB-LVN-SAC-ELM -TSF, published on Soaring Spot. As I type we are halfway through the grid with an expected gate time of 1300hrs. One of our tugs is down already, not know what the problem is but we should still get them off within the hour.

Registration

Registration closed at 2100hrs. There were 25 entrants. There has been a great deal of activity putting up tents and awnings. The two Chipmunks arrived from Odiham so were are ready for the off. The entrants list should be on Soaring Spot soon, if they are not already

Friday Evening

Registration is well under way. Colin is back from his holidays and meeting and greeting. The tug from Saltby has arrived and Sid and Tommy should be well on their way back from Odiham with the two Chipmunks. Tony Griffiths stole my ride.
Tomorrow does not look too good now but who knows, not me for sure

A peek at Saturday

Current indications are of a low pressure centred just north of Aberdeen at midday. There is a cold front out to the east having passed over Tibenham in the early hours. Forecast soundings show unstable conditions with no significant inversion. Much will depend on the amount and location of any cloud dragged round the low. The good news is that it is polar air being dragged down which tends to be relatively dry. Much can change as it is a long way ahead but with a forecast temperature of 19 at 1600hrs with a 12kt westerly wind a task looks possible. We can but hope.

Monday, 4 July 2011

Don't believe all you read

Some of you may have seen information elsewhere that there will be no reports from the 18 metre Mationals at Tibenham. I think the fact that you are reading this indicates that you cannot believe all you read elsewhere. As stated in my previous post the information will be available here

18 Metre National Championships

One week to go to the start of the 18 Metre National Championships. Just a heads up on what can be expected.

The task set will be uploaded to SoaringSpot as soon as it can be done, normally by the scorer after briefing.

The URL for this is http://www.soaringspot.com/18mnationals/results/

This blog will be updated during the day as and when we can. Updating the blog will be a lower priority than some other tasks so please be patient. The priority is getting the competitors in the air so it is unlikely that there will be much information published until that has happened.

The results will appear on SoaringSpot as soon as we have a meaningful result to publish and assuming that SoaringSpot have sorted out their problems with their site. It was taking several hours to upload results during the last competition. It should be clearly understood that there is no intention to publish results on this blog.

If anyone attending the competition has a burning ambition to be a blog author, putting out lots of information on a regular basis then please contact us and we will arrange for a logon.

Wednesday

Apologies for not posting earlier, been short staffed today however we have had a day, sadly no-one got round but worthwhile even so. Congratulations to Paul McLean who won the day with 962 points. Results are on soaring spot but I cannot access at the moment.

Tuesday

The starts are coming think and fast. There is evidence of showers down track but we managed to launch the grid without getting wet. I seems that we have tasked into the same area as Lasham who are coming north, we both seem to think that area will offer the best opportunites.

Tuesday

Task set TIB-RAT-STS-GRF-TIB

Grid commenced launching at 1100hrs and the start line opened at 1200hrs. As I write OM has called start.

Monday, 30 May 2011

Results

The results can be found here

Finishing

All gliders have now finished or landed back, as the day turned out more could have been done. Results will be on soaring spot shortly

Gate Open

The start gate opened at 1233 hrs

Grid Launc has started

First launch took place at 1133hrs. 3kt climbs reported with a cloudbase of 3000ft

Monday

Amazing, the sun is shining and the Cu are forming but we only anticipate a small window. Task set is TIB-WYM-ELM-DIS-TIB

Sunday, 29 May 2011

Sunday (2)

Briefing is over, in view of the high winds and forecast gusts we are scrubbed for today.

Sunday

It does not look good for today, I suspect we will be watching the Monaco GP today after all. Briefing is at 1000hrs so more after then.

Saturday, 28 May 2011

Eastern Regionals 2011 are Open

The Eastern Regionals are open but it will come as no surprise to anyone that we are scrubbed for today. The only thing of note is that we sung happy birthday to Padge, how old do we think he is?
